How Are You Financing Your Horses?

Hope You’re Having A Great Day!

Have you thought about having a home based business to finance your horses?  Really, it just makes so much sense.  You want the freedom of time to spend with your animals.  You want to be able to make a lot of money, because let’s face it, horses can be very expensive.  Think about it,looking out of your home based office and watching your horses, what a stress reliever. I realize that not everyone can just quit their present job and jump into self employment, but there are many online businesses that you can work on while still being employed somewhere else.

I have always had my own business, not always an online business though.  I used to be out and about calling on clients, managing my sales reps, etc.  Even though it was my own marketing company, I still spent time away from the ranch and the horses. I always felt there had to be a better way, even though I really did have it good!

I started learning about how our feelings are such a vital part of what kind of life we are able to live.  This led me to looking at other options to success, and I discovered that there is so much more than what I had thought there was.  Looking back, I can now see that I could have had so much more success with much less stress.  Without the previous experiences, I wouldn’t have known what I really did desire for my life, now that’s a good thing!

I have some resources for you that have been very helpful to me in my journey to where I am today.  I hope you will take advantage of them.  My intent with this is to help each of you be able to spend more, and happier times with your precious horses without stressing about how to pay for everything.

Heading out to the barn, its supposed to rain, and want to get some mares & babies in.

Happy Day To You!

I am so excited!! My last mare foaled and I now have ALL fillies, oh yeah.  I can’t remember how long it has been since this has happened.  I would have loved a stud colt, don’t get me wrong, but this is a dream come true!  I am so very blessed, and so thankful.

These fillies are a very important part of my breeding program.  I am also looking forward to great things from them in the show pen. Already looking forward to the first time I climb on their backs.  But, I am getting ahead of myself.  There is a lot of prep time before then, and I love every second of it!

I haven’t bred any of the mares back this year.  I’ll probably really regret this decision next Spring when there are no babies coming, but right now this feels good.  The great thing is, if I am missing having the foals, my friends are always happy to have me bring some of their mares home and foal them out for them.  Yeah, I think I’ll be fine with my decision.

Another Day, Another Show!

6e68790a-small1Great day To You!

The Super Stakes Cutting Horse show semi finals is this afternoon.  Seems like the show was just starting, where does time go and why does it go so fast?  There are some real standouts in this, as there always is.  Have several good friends who have made the cut and I wish they could all walk away with the top spot.

All in all, the second jewel of our cutting horse triple crown has been a great show!  The first few days the cows were iffy, but that happens.  After all, these horses are supposed to perform no matter what the condtions or the quality of the cows.

This show has been a kick in the butt for me, since I don’t have anyone entered, it’s just been go watch, socialize, and have fun!

The guest house!

The guest house!

Good Morning To You!

Another precious filly joined us this morning!  All Spring the mares have been foaling from one to two weeks early, this one foaled exactly on the due date.  Goes to show when we think we’ve got it dialed in what these horses are going to do, the we get our lifes’ lesson.

If this mama mare had her choice, she’d take her baby far away so I’d not be able to get my hands on her.  You just don’t know how a first foal mare is going to behave after foaling.  I would sure rather have them over protective, like this one, than not caring at all.  She’ll settle down in a day or so.

One more mare to foal, and then can go back to sleeping regularly, well, that’s a good plan anyway!?  This last one is due on April 24, and she doesn’t look like she’ll go that long, but what do I know?

I’m going to the barn and try to get some pictures of the baby without the mare blocking the way.  We’ll see how that goes!  Have a beautiful day!!

Angel Filly Grows Horns!

Happy You Are Here!

I had an interesting, if you can call it that,  thing happen yesterday.  As I do every morning, I turn the mares and babies out of their stalls and runs to their pastures.  Well, when I got to the youngest filly, I had quite a surprise!  This dear little angel of a baby decided she was not going to get caught this morning.  She not only was not going to get caught, she decided to get her mother all fuzzed up as well!

This filly has always be a bigger challenge to get haltered and started in leading.  All babies are silly when they are learning something new and that’s really a good thing.  I have found the more trouble they are, the better they turn out.  My opinion is, the smarter ones will try you a lot more just to see how far they can push!  Well, this little girl must be a genius.

It took me almost 45 minutes to get a halter on her.  This is in a stall with a 30 foot run, good grief!  I almost forgot to mention, this is one that has moves that put some of the trained cutting horses on notice.  She gets down on her belly to make a corner and has done this since she was 5 days old.  When she is playing, she can kick above my head. The other day when she was nursing, guess she bit down a bit hard, and her mom gave her a nip.  Well, that didn’t set well with her & mom just missed getting her head kicked off.  So you can see where I’m going with this.

Happy to say, we finally got haltered and out to pasture, guess this one is going to take a litle more work?!  Let me add, when it was time to come in later, we almost had a replay of the mornings’ activities, only with a lot more room.  Glad she was a little tired from all her racing around.

Oh yeah, it’s time to go tackle my little angel that grew horns!

Dare To Dream Again!

Happy Day To You!

Are you celebrating your wealth and your horses today?  While moving mares and babies this morning, it struck me that we are all so able to live our dreams everyday.  Whether you have a business that takes you away from home or a home based business, we are all free to choose what we do!  Think about it, even if you currently are working at a job that you’re not thrilled about, you can make a different choice.  It may not always be easy to do, but it you truly desire the change, it will be so very worthwhile.  Please don’t let anything or anyone take your dreams from you!

I have some friends who are spending the summer in Ruidoso, the wind was blowing there at 65 miles an hour, not a gust now & then, that was a constant wind. Now we’ve been windy here in Texas for the last few days, but compared to that, we can’t even call this wind. I learn something from the horses almost everyday.  Take the wind for example, I moan & groan about how inconvenient it is, and these precious horses use it as an excuse to run and play more! That would be such a great way to go through life, taking everything is stride and making the most of it.  I’m not there yet, but will keep working on it.

Time to head out and enjoy another beautiful breezy day.  How was that??!!!

Happy Day To You!

We have an amazing healing therapy called a hyperbaric chamber for horses right here in Weatherford. The Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery Vet clinic uses this therapy to cure stubborn wounds, bone and joint infections, and it enhances the healing of tendons and ligaments.

The horse will be kept in a pressurized, oxygen-rich environment for 45 minutes to an hour at a time.  This therapy shortens the recovery time and greatly enhances the effect of other treatments, such as stem cell injections into injured tendons. The Vet says “it’s an extra tool that helps salvage injured tissue from infection or trauma”.

I love that this therapy is saving horses who in the past the vets would have had to euthanize. Anything that will extend a horses life and give them a better quality of life is priceless!

Dr. Bain describes the chamber’s value in two levels. “Level 1 is saving a patient who might otherwise have died”. “Level 2 is speeding up the treatment time as much as 50%.  Because of the quicker recovery time, the cost of using the hyperbaric chamber will be more than paid for.

A lot of performance horse people from all parts of the country are taking advantage of this with great success.  I also want to stress that EVERY horse, who is hurt or sick will benefit from this therapy!

HI, I’m Glad You’re Here!

This rainy weather has the mares and babies feeling good! What amazing moves these little ones have.  Now that I know they have the talent and athletic ability, the real test will be when they first face a cow in a few years. It’s fun comparing what their mothers did when they were this age & how they turned out.

We all spend so much time studying the pedigrees and the horses to try & figure out who should be the best matches to produce what we are looking for.  When its all said & done, the best pedigree and all the athletic ability in the world doesn’t mean a thing if they don’t love what they do!

What is so wonderful about these horses, even though our pride and joy doesn’t always
end up doing what we planned on, they can always go on & excel at something more suited to their personality.  Aren’t horses great!!!??

Everyone around here has been getting ready for the Super Stakes Cutting Horse show which starts Monday march 30th.  It just doesn’t seem possible that another year has gone by, but zip zap,it has.

Time to get out to the barn and spoil the babies.

Horses And Rodeo Bulls!

Internet, horses | Posted by Barbara
Mar 25 2009

Our friends at Diamond S Bucking Bulls are kicking off the bull riding season on April 7th. This is a really fun event, with some of the top cowboys trying to ride some really rank young bulls.  I always love watching the horses that are used to help the bulls out of the arena.  These horses are really something.  Just imagine a mad bull with destruction on his mind heading for anything that moves!  That would be the horse & the cowboy whose job it is to escort the bull out of the arena with as litle damage to all as possible.

The courage and the athletic ability of these horses make you sit up and take notice.  They sometimes don’t look like show horses, they may not be registered, but that doesn’t mean a thing.  I still think that all horses are beautiful, no matter who they are. All animals should be loved and treasured for who they are not what they are.

Tne next time you go to a rodeo or bull riding event, be sure to take special notice of the horses who are out in the arena doing what they do best and give them a silent WOW!

The cowboys are sure not slackers either.  My dad roped professionally, so I have seen some of the best in the business, but these guys that are clearing the arena are absolutely amazing.  I wouldn’t even want to try to swing a rope on a fast moving bull, especially when he’s moving right at you!  On top of that their horses are doing their best to stay out of the way of that bull, now that’s roping!

Now go out and hug your precious horse!

Could A Home Based Business Give You More Time For Your Horses?

Internet | Posted by Barbara

Happy To See You!

Have you ever wondered if a work at home business is right for you?  I’ll tell you, raising & training Cutting Horses doesn’t leave a lot of time to go to work somewhere else.  I have been very fortunate to have a great home based business that gives me all the time I need for my horses. My Intent is to share with you some great resources along the way that can help you spend more time with your horses.

I Guess what I’m trying to say is, I am really unemployable, how about you?  The horses always come before anything else and I like it that way!  My personality just doesn’t allow me to have anyone tell me what to do and when to do it.  I believe a lot of horse people are probably the same way.

It’s a totally different story now, if the advice or sugggestions are coming from another horse person or one of my trainer friends.  Everytime I spend time with horse people, I will learn something else.  Aren’t we all a great bunch of poeple to hang out with??!!

Our Super Stakes Cutting Horse show starts March 30th & I am really looking forward to spending time with the people who will be here from other parts of the country.  Even though we sometimes don’t see each other for several months at a time, we always have a blast!

Time to go do a bit of business so I can pay for the horses!
